thoughts on the Rob and Doug Show

On Rob Ford running for City Council and Doug Ford running for Mayor:
Really smart move… its called realpolitik. Rob was going to lose for mayor anyways so he opted to go for a "sure" thing (speaks badly of the voters for Ward2). Doug won't win the mayor's seat but no biggie…. he wants to go back to the private sector anyways. This is a face-saving move to ease Rob back into what he was good at: being a councillor and making noise at City Hall. Will he win as a councillor? Hope not but hey, this is Ward 2, where the "low-information" voters will vote for him.

UHN Presents: Judith John is a Toronto-based patient advocate and former Hospital executive who utilizes story telling to illustrate the crucial importance of ‘soft skills’ in healthcare and healing. Drawing from her patient experience Ms. John relates how she has benefited from the expertise of her doctors and advances in medical technology to save her life. But her one-on-one treatment, the ‘mortar’ as she calls it, that binds the delivery of healthcare - has been uneven. Using sometimes humorous anecdotes Ms. John drives home the powerful message that when you "Partner in Care" – patients feel better.

LX3 Diaries #533: A Memorial to a Bicyclist

On the median/island on the north side of Richmond Street West on University Avenue is one of several memorials of bike riders who have died while riding their bikes in the city. Amidst the culturally-inflicted seasonal celebrations and the self-imposed denials of the transitory nature of our lives, these all-white painted bikes are a stark reminder of how fragile and transient our existence is.
