Wabi-sabi represents a comprehensive Japanese world view or aesthetic centred on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete". It is a concept derived from the Buddhist teaching of the three marks of existence, specifically impermanence, suffering, and emptiness or absence of self-nature.

Characteristics of wabi-sabi include asymmetry, asperity (roughness or irregularity), simplicity, economy, austerity, modesty, intimacy, and appreciation of the ingenuous integrity of natural objects and processes.

thoughts on the Rob and Doug Show

On Rob Ford running for City Council and Doug Ford running for Mayor:
Really smart move… its called realpolitik. Rob was going to lose for mayor anyways so he opted to go for a "sure" thing (speaks badly of the voters for Ward2). Doug won't win the mayor's seat but no biggie…. he wants to go back to the private sector anyways. This is a face-saving move to ease Rob back into what he was good at: being a councillor and making noise at City Hall. Will he win as a councillor? Hope not but hey, this is Ward 2, where the "low-information" voters will vote for him.

Our 75 Km walk took us through both Navarra and the Rioja regions of Northern Spain.

iphone 6… and COLTAN

Stumbled across this gathering protesting against the continuing atrocities in The Democratic Republic of Congo, fueled by the rush to mine the mineral Coltan, a key component in electronic devices such as cell phones, laptops, aircraft engines, and military equipment.

It's one thing to read about this in print; it's a totally different experience when you hear their pleas for help personally. I cannot imagine what it would feel like to look into the eyes of the victims of these crimes against humanity.

These crimes include child labour, recruiting children to be child soldiers, mass rapes, environmental destruction of wildlife habitant, and the contamination of the soil and water supply to last for hundreds of years.

A participant in a demonstration against the atrocities committed in The Democratic Republic of Congo as a result of the mining of Coltan.

UHN Presents: Judith John is a Toronto-based patient advocate and former Hospital executive who utilizes story telling to illustrate the crucial importance of ‘soft skills’ in healthcare and healing. Drawing from her patient experience Ms. John relates how she has benefited from the expertise of her doctors and advances in medical technology to save her life. But her one-on-one treatment, the ‘mortar’ as she calls it, that binds the delivery of healthcare - has been uneven. Using sometimes humorous anecdotes Ms. John drives home the powerful message that when you "Partner in Care" – patients feel better.

Organic oat flour, chia seeds, maple syrup, vanilla, almond milk, baking powder (from Oh She Glows) plus the best-tasting jam around: Crofter's Organic Wild Blueberry from Parry Sound, ON.

Plus fresh fruit, scrambled cheessy eggs, bacon, and really, really, good fresh ground/brewed coffee.

Heaven on earth.
